karin-familyKarin was born and raised in South St. Paul and graduated from SSP high school in 1982. Went on to receive a BA in Communication from the State University of New York and married her high school sweetheart in 1985. Karin and her husband, Phil, have 4 children (ages 12 – 23). The Housleys spent 20 years moving all over the US and Canada due Phil’s Hall of Fame hockey career. The Housleys have seen and lived through many different school environments, communities and health care systems and facilities. After all of the transitions, the Housleys were eager to move back to Minnesota, set up permanent roots near where they grew up in the southeast metro, and begin the next chapter of their lives.

Karin is a small business owner, quickly building a very successful real estate business at Keller Williams Real Estate. Karin also hosts The Karin Housley Show, on AM 1220, a variety show, featuring local guests, real estate talk, stock market discussion, and happenings in and around the east metro.

In a Nutshell –

  • 1982 – Graduated South St. Paul High School
  • 1982 – Augsburg College
  • 1988 – SUNY Buffalo Grad 1988 (transferred) with BA in Communication
  • 1987 – 1990 – Television News Producer at NBC & ABC affiliates
  • 1991 – Moved to Canada & surrendered to motherhood
  • 1991 – 2001 – Moved many times, including Winnipeg, Manitoba; St. Louis Missouri; Calgary, Alberta; New Jersey, Washington, DC; Chicago, Toronto & Phoenix.
  • 1997 – today; started investment club for women called Chicks Laying Nest Eggs, wrote book on experience, published by Random House. Karin continues to make media appearances & teach classes on how to invest in strong companies.
  • 2001 – Moved back to homestate of MN so children could finish schooling in the Stillwater School District.
  • 2003 – Got Real Estate Licenses in both Minnesota & Wisconsin, and has built her business into one of the top in the area.
  • 2004 – 2009 – Wrote weekly humorist column in the Sun Newspapers
  • 2007The Karin Housley Show began on AM 1220 KLBB. Still airs weekly at 10:00 AM Saturday mornings. Uses show as a venue for local charitable events & causes – Joseph’s Coats, Ever After Gowns,Valley Outreach, Pajama Program, Taste of the St. Croix, Perspectives Kids Cafe, Human Services, Inc. & many others.
  • 2009 – Voted Super Agent by Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine

Family –

Husband – Phil – Retired from NHL after 21 year, currently running the Phil Housley Foundation and coaching the Stillwater High School Boys Hockey Team.

Taylor – (22) Senior at the University of MN Duluth, majoring in Communications

Reide – (19) Sophomore at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, CA. Major in Communications

Wilson – (18) Senior at Stillwater Area High School

Avery – (12) Sixth Grade at Afton Lakeland Elementary

* Karin is passionate about our public schools, as her dad, Pete Locke, taught at South St. Paul High School for 33 years. He was the basketball, baseball & golf coach at the school, and an all around nice guy.
