Go Vikings & Scott Brown!

January 16, 2010

I can barely contain myself. 24 more hours until the Vikings Pre-Game! Go Purple People Eaters. Does anyone still call them that or am I old?

On another note, I’m enjoying this world of politics. It’s very interesting to be part of decisions that are being made that affect each of us every day. This morning I was at the River Heights & Dakota County Chamber Business & Industry Meeting with State Reps. Garafalo, Bigham, Hansen, Masin, Sterner, Obermueller & Senators Gerlach & Carlson. Job creation was a top priority across the aisle. Seven a.m. was a little early for me, but they had good coffee.

Real Estate News

We’ve got a new addition to Karin Housley Homes HQ! We coerced Susan Anderson, who has been working in real estate for nine years to join forces with us. She will be managing our bevy of beautiful listings and bringing buyers to see homes. I could throw a joke in here about “how three women could get the work of ten men done in half the time,” but I won’t. We’ll see if my husband reads this far. 😉 We have three new listings this week, one below, another in Autumn Ridge in Stillwater, and another on Hunter Hill in Wisconsin. If you know of anyone looking to buy or sell, please have them call me. We’re really good, smart, efficient & fun. Susan is also very nice. For everything under the Karin Housley Headquarters Umbrella, from Radio Show, to Facebook, to Senate Site to Twitter…it’s at

The Karin Housley Show

We have a great show today! We’re going to be talking with Pat Effenberger of the Pioneer Press about the Medallion Hunt. Get out your Uggs & hand warmers, the clues come out Sunday! Also, we’re going to talk to last year’s winner, the father/daughter team of Joe & Jess Horwath to get some tips. Julie is going to bring her dog named Blue to see if that will help her in the clue quest for the $10,000. Tune in tomorrow morning at 10:00 on AM 1220 on the dial, or on the web. Click Listen Live. We’ll also be talking real estate, events coming up in the area and as always, a little Hollywood gossip from our girl on the street, @KateLarson (Twitter). Julie will also bring us a couple of quick & easy appetizers to make for the Vikings game. (I hope she brings them to the studio and just doesn’t talk about it.)

Hockey News

– Here are the Suburban East Conference Standings. Stillwater plays Hastings tomorrow at 3:00 in Hastings. Woodbury plays Cretin. Cottage Grove plays East Ridge, and the boys from White Bear are still out in the snow looking for their shoes.

Plugs this week – Who’s got the best burger in the St. Croix River Valley?

Six restaurants in Stillwater are vying for the title of the 2010 Best Burger in the Valley — and it’s all to benefit the Minnesota-Dakotas Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The six restaurants hoping to win are Brine’s Restaurant & Bar, Dock Cafe, Leo’s Grill & Malt Shop, Mad Capper Saloon & Eatery, Meister’s German Bar & Grill and Smalley’s Caribbean Barbeque. Here’s how it works: Purchase a Best Burger card for $20 at Alesci Furniture Gallery, Alfresco Casual Living, Red Rover Kids, Trade Wind Spice Company, Dock Cafe, Leo’s, Mad Capper or Meister’s. From now until March 31, you can take the card to the competing restaurants and redeem it for a free burger. After you’ve tried all the burgers, you can vote for your favorite online or by mail. Voting ends April 15, and the winning restaurant will be announced in late April. For information, go to .

Go Vikings!

P.S. Julie has thrown her energy into the Massachusetts Senate Race in support of Scott Brown for “Ted Kennedy’s Seat.” She took next Tuesday off to watch the big vote on Fox News and was last seen carrying a case of wine out of Haskells. Please peeps of Mass, do the right thing. I need her.

Happy New Year!

December 31, 2009

Just a quick note today, as I’m scrambling. Go figure.

We’re selling, listing and showing homes all before the ball drops…so I must hurry.

If you missed last week’s email, I announced that I’m running for State Senate in District 57 in MN. Realtors (and other business owners, and heck, each & every taxpayer for that matter) need all the help they can get, so I’m stepping up to the plate to get ’er done. Today is the last day that I can get contributions for 2009. I really really do need your help, as I’m running against incumbent Katie Sieben, and she already has some cash in her till from the last time she ran. (No one has really challenged her before, and I really want to challenge her & WIN!) We need money for signs, rallies, mailers etc… So if you have anything leftover from Christmas, I’d really appreciate a small donation. Anyone from anywhere (even Canada) can contribute to the campaign! As we all know, government starts with you, at the local level, and it’s time to send the message on up. (My message is at

Max contribution is $100 per person for 2009. Go to and click the DONATE button (the site takes credit cards) or write & date your check today (12/31/09), and drop it in the mail to Housley For Senate at PO Box 7 – Lakeland, MN 55043. Even my frugal brother-in-law in Atlanta donated. Thanks, Mac, I’m in shock.

Happy New Year! Gotta run, as I’m selling one in Afton today!

P.S. I just left Julie in the office agonizing over whether she wants to call the New Year, Two Thousand and Ten, or Twenty Ten. In between, she’s dangling her rosary mumbling Rush Limbaugh, Rush Limbaugh. Please say a prayer for Rush, he’s lookin’ good.

Happpy Holidays from Housley Headquarters!

I love saying that….just flows off your tongue. Too bad it’s only once a year.Been busy back at the Housley house, from hockey to Christmas recitals, never a dull moment. We did manage to take a quick trip to St. Louis for two days as Phil was named to Brett Hull’s Dream Team.

(Brett picked players he played with in St. Louis to be on his Dream Team.) We were treated like royalty (so fun to be in that world again if even just for a brief time), and really enjoyed catching up with old friends. Though, if you’re looking to keep up with the Jones’, don’t ever gamble with the Gretzkys. They kicked my butt. For photos of our evening, you can see them here on Facebook.

Real Estate News –

Not the busiest time of the year in real estate, but somehow we managed to sell an estate in Somerset! A very nice family found the Sheffel residence on our website, called to see it, and just like that, ::::POOF:::: SOLD! Congratulations, Tom & family! You just never know. A few years ago, I sold my sister’s house on Christmas Eve’s Eve. We have a whole slew of new (& recent too) listings, from a dream spot on South Center Lake in Lindstrom, to a brand new listing on Eagle Valley golf course in Woodbury, to the model home pictures here in The Sanctuary in Lake Elmo.

From cabins to castles, we sell them, and we can help you find one too. Please give us a call, because 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, we’re selling real estate back at

Big News –

I’m telling you first, as I’m not making the official announcement to the “other media” until January. But, after much discussion with my family, I’ve decided to run for State Senate in District 57. Map of District 57 here. I know, crazy, but someone who believes in budgets had to.

I’m still going to be selling real estate, as the Senate isn’t a full time job, nor should it be a career. There needs to be some fiscal responsibility in the legislature, some incentives to keep & grow businesses in our state, and as always, I’m passionate about education. (Don’t get me going on health care, because remember I lived socialized medicine.) I am running on the Republican ticket, and am so excited for the challenge ahead. The website is It will be constantly changing, as my iPhone can do amazing things from the road. Little known fact, but did you know that you can contribute to anyone running for public office even if outside your district? My friends from St. Louis just sent a check yesterday! I hate asking for money, but it’s what makes these things go. So if you’re so inclined to help Team Housley get to the Senate, I really do appreciate donations! Send to Housley For Senate PO Box 7 Lakeland MN 55043 Campaign finance law for 2009 allows a max contribution of $100 per person, and $250 per person in 2010….but every $5.00 counts! I’m trying to raise as much as I can before the 2010 ball drops. There is also a credit card link at the HousleyForSenate site.

Ponies Hockey News –

The Ponies are off to a great start, tied for third in the Suburban East conference . They defeated Park Cottage Grove last night 6-3. They play tomorrow night versus White Bear Lake at Aldrich Arena at 8:00.

Told ya it’s been busy.

The Karin Housley Show –

Tomorrow morning at 10:00 on AM 1220 on the dial, or on the web. Click Listen Live. I’ll be talking about a few of my favorite things of 2009, items I’ve purchased, loved & will be gifting this year. Family members need not listen. We’ll also be talking to St. Paul Pioneer Press Tech Guru, Julio-Ojeda Zapata about last minute tech Christmas gifts, and as always, we’ll be talking real estate, politics & a little Hollywood gossip. (Anyone else see Nicole Kidman’s nose? Someone should have told her.)

Three plugs this week –

My friend Billy Larson’s band, Vintage Raggs, will be playing at the Cherokee Sirloin Room in West St. Paul on Saturday night at 9:30 (Phil brought me here for our first date). Billy’s wife Lisa, will be with her band, The Lisa Wenger (Blues) Band, tonight at Neumans in North St. Paul, and at Shaw’s Bar & Grill in MPLS on Saturday. Also, on Saturday from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Rosedale Mall on the lower level, my friend & author Jim Bruton will be selling his book, GOPHER GLORY: THE PRIDE OF THE MAROON AND GOLD with ALL proceeds going to the M Club Scholarship Fund. They expect to have close to two dozen or more former Gopher football players there to sign the books. Also coming will be Coach Tim Brewster and expected to attend is Athletic Director Joel Maturi and former Coach Murray Warmath. Probably never again will someone be able to buy a book at a discount price and get as many former Gophers to sign the book!!

I’ve never even been to a Gopher football game, but Jim’s a good guy.

Shout out to John Heroff. Happy Birthday. 41.

Have a very Merry Christmas! I’m off to show some houses to Marina and her kids!!

P.S. Julie is still farming on Facebook. Please don’t send her any cows or chickens. She just got back from visiting her parents in California, and let her crops die whilst away. I thought that was the end of it, but nope, she’s back at it. Please don’t tell her that Betty Crocker is now on Facebook, or she’ll start harvesting the darn crops and start her own General Julie Mills.
